The Malaga Island Project was perhaps the most controversial jobs Porcupine Design has ever had. Working with Dru Colbert we had the task of honoring the descendants and their ancestors of Malaga Island by designing and creating an exhibit for the Maine State Museum. Malaga’s history was quite tumultuous as the somewhat thriving bi-racial community during the beginning of the 20th century, was evicted from their peaceful island by enforcement. This installation celebrated the knowledge and everyday lives of the Malaga Island dwellers and highlighted the family history and artifacts found on the island from archeological excavations.
